Show IDs in HTML Documents

Filed under: Web Development, Javascript — Scott Severance at 2:36 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2005

I’ve written a Javascript bookmark that allows the user to find HTML elements with a given ID. This is handy for debugging HTML code. I’ve tested it in Firefox 1.0.4, but it should work in any Firefox/Mozilla version or any recent version of other browsers that allow Javascript bookmarks. This script doesn’t work in Internet Explorer.

To create a bookmark, right click the folowing link: Show IDs and choose Bookmark this link… or choose Copy link location and manually create a bookmark.

Update 10/13/05: I’ve upgraded the bookmark. The ID list is now much more readable.

It doesn’t work on your beloved firefox as you claim.

I’ve been using it in Firefox 1.0.4 on Windows XP quite a bit, without difficulty. Would you help me by telling me what version you’re using, as well as what error messages — if any — you’re getting? That way, I might be able to fix it. I’m sorry that it didn’t work for you.
